In 2022, the number of video gamers worldwide stood at 3.03 billion, a slight decrease from 3.2 billion global gamers in the previous year. Gaming purchases have been increasing in popularity, and the COVID-19 pandemic caused this trend to accelerate in 2020 and 2021, while normalizing over the course in 2022 when other activities became available again.
