Favorite francophone female singers in France 2017

In 2017, the favorite French-speaking female singer in France was Canadian superstar Celine Dion. She was followed by another legend of French-speaking songs, Mylène Farmer who was chosen by 15 percent of respondents. This ranking of favorite francophone female singers in France shows that the French remain loyal to certain artists who, like Celine Dion, Mylène Farmer, Véronique Sanson or France Gall, have started their careers decades ago but still have an impact on French music industry. A similar phenomenon has been seen when it comes to male singers.

A love for the great classics of French music

With the democratization of online streaming services, music is now available everywhere. People can access to a wide variety of music choices and genres and listen to it while working, traveling or studying. In France more than 60 percent of citizens declared listening to music every day or almost according to a survey from 2017. However, if the choice of songs is more and more diversified, it seems that the French remain attached to the classics. In 2017, “Mistral gagnant” a song from French singer Renaud, which was released in 1985, was ranked as the all-time favorite song of the French. The second most popular song of all time in France was “Ne me quitte pas”, by Belgian singer and songwriter Jacques Brel, that was recorded and released in 1959.

Evolving music tastes

Music is evolving and so is the interest of the younger generations. While the great standards of French music remain popular, new artists are emerging. In 2017, Canadian singer Coeur de Pirate was mentioned as the favorite female singer of 20 percent of the French population aged younger than 35 years. Well-known artists such as Christine and the Queens or Stromae, who give concerts all over the world, contribute to the recognition and renewal of French-speaking music today.
