This statistic shows the monthly number of contactless payment card journeys on London transport systems from January 2016 to May 2019. The graph clearly indicates an overall rise in the amount of contactless payment traffic in London on buses, trams and rail. The number of bus and tram journeys using contactless payment cards between 10 January and 6 February 2016 was 10.57 million, which rose to approximately 32.33 million between 28th April and 25th of May 2019. As the number of journeys using contactless card payments rises so does the revenue created by such transactions. Between 28th April and the 25th March 2019, rail journeys through contactless payment rose to over 138.9 million British pounds.
