Share of private renters deposits withheld in the United Kingdom (UK) 2017, by reason This statistic shows the percentage of tenants that privately rented in the United Kingdom (UK) in 2017 and have had their deposits withheld along with the reasons for having the deposit withheld. Of the overall respondents that have had a deposit withheld, 39.1 percent said it was for cleaning bills. Moreover 18.7 percent said that their landlord never gave them a reason for withholding a deposit.
