The measurement of the index score is explained in Dutch by the source as follows: ''De index van het donateursvertrouwen wordt bepaald op basis van vijf vragen over het geefklimaat, over de geefbereidheid en over het imago van goede doelen. De respondenten kunnen bij deze vragen vinden dat het beter gaat (‘de optimisten’), dat het slechter gaat (‘de pessimisten’) of dat de situatie gelijk blijft. De indicatoren worden berekend door het percentage optimisten te verminderen met het percentage pessimisten.'' (English: the index of the donators trust is based on five questions on the circumstances of donations, the willingness to donate and the public image of charities. The respondents can indicate with these questions if the situation has improved ('optimists'), has gotten worse ('pessimists') or if the situation stayed the same. The indicators will be calculated by subtracting the percentage of optimists with the percentage of pessimists)
