Most popular apple varieties in France 2005-2017 According to a survey conducted between 2005 and 2017, the apple variety “Golden” was the most popular apple variety among 20 percent of the respondents, just before the Granny Smith.  
Production of apples in France

  The production volume of the “Golden” apple variety amounted to around 660,000 tons in 2005 and decreased to about 400,000 tons in 2017. Furthermore, the variety Granny Smith was produced in the amount of around 130,000 tons that year in France. Overall, the apple production in France represented approximately 1.5 million tons in 2016.   

Fruits consumption in France

  Regarding annual apple sales, Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada forecasted them to reach 498 thousand tons by 2018 in France. In a survey from January 2019, about half of the respondents declared eating fruits between three and seven times a week. A ranking elaborated in 2017 placed apples in the sixth position of the favorite fruits among the French.
