This statistic displays the distribution of contactless payments made in the Euro area in 2016 by spending range. The most of the Euro area countries factored into this statistic, a limit of 25 euros is in place in regards to contactless payment cards. Countries such as Spain have no limit but require a PIN for payments over 25 euros. Other countries included in the result of this statistic have a lower maximum spend on contactless payment cards such as Portugal with 20 euros. It can been seen that in 2016 there is a clear correlation between lower payments and the use of contactless payment in the Euro area with approximately 35 percent of all purchase transaction being below 5 euros.
