Greenhouse gas emissions from transportation in the EU-27 1990-2021
Transportation emissions in the European Union totaled 782 million million metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalent (MtCO₂e) in 2021. This was an increase of roughly nine percent from the previous year, with emissions rebounding sharply from the COVID-19 induced slump in 2020. Since 1990, EU transportation emissions have risen 16 percent. Road transportation is the biggest direct source of EU transportation emissions, by far.
