The Tesla Model S Long Range was ranked as the electric vehicle with the longest battery range among selected cars launched in the United States in 2019. The top nine cars in the rankings were all manufactured by Tesla, highlighting its dominance in the electric vehicle market.

Demand for electric vehicles is increasing

Around 330,000 electric vehicles were sold in the United States in 2018, with sales from the state of California accounting for nearly 50 percent of that figure. By 2026, electric vehicles are expected to have a 7.6 percent share of total vehicle sales in the United States. Improvements in technology and investment in infrastructure are among the reasons why consumer concerns about battery life and a lack of charging points are being quashed.

Tesla in pole position

Tesla has a firm grip on the electric vehicle market in the United States: the American automotive company sold more than 190,000 battery electric vehicles in 2018, more than ten times as many as the next ranked firm. The Tesla Model 3 was the best-selling all-electric car in the United States in 2018, but competition within the market is predicted to intensify over the next few years as Audi, Volkswagen, BMW, and Mercedes-Benz all attempt to take some market share away from Tesla.
