In 2022, the total sales volume of organic milk in the United States (U.S.) amounted to about 2.8 billion pounds. Organic milk refers to a number of milk products from livestock raised according to organic farming methods. Organic farming methods use fertilizers of organic origin such as compost manure, green manure, and bone meal and place emphasis on techniques such as crop rotation and companion planting. The label "organic" is regulated by U.S. authorities. The use of the term is equivalent to terms like "bio" or "eco". Broken down by various categories, total fat reduced organic milk generated the largest number of sales in the U.S. in 2020, with approximately 1.6 billion U.S. dollars. In second and third place were whole organic milk and reduced fat organic milk (2%).

In 2020, approximately 223.1 billion pounds of milk were produced in the United States. In 2000, this figure amounted to around 167.4 billion pounds. The states of California and Wisconsin are the leading producers of milk, based on the number of milk cows. Despite the increase in production over the years, the retail sales value of milk has steadily decreased in recent years.
