Social housing providers offer hosing to people with a low income or in need of extra support. As of April 21 2021, there were more than 1,600 social housing providers registered in the United Kingdom (UK), the largest share of which are non-profit (1,356), followed by Local authorities at 215 and for-profit companies at 53. Non-profit social housing providers are predominantly registered societies (774) and charitable companies (209).
