Steel imports into the U.S. that are covered by new trade laws 2017 This graph illustrates the percentage of U.S. steel imports from selected countries that are predicted to become subject to trade laws if the Trump administration follows through on its "100 day" action plan as of 2017. In this scenario, the percentage of U.S. steel imports from China covered by such trade restrictions is expected to amount to about 1.3 percent. Previously, the United States had already put a stop to a large part of the potential steel imports from China through antidumping trade restrictions. Across all industries, some 9.2 percent of Chinese exports to the United States were subject to barriers such as antidumping and countervailing duties as of 2016.

In this scenario, the percentage of U.S. steel imports from China covered by such trade restrictions is expected to amount to about 1.3 percent.
