Unlikely-to-pay exposures are a subcategory of non-performing loans and, more particularly, these are to be considered loans in respect of which banks believe the debtors are unlikely to fully meet their contractual obligations unless additional enforcement of guarantees is taken. As of the first half of 2020, UniCredit had the highest unlikely-to-pay exposure among the ten largest banks in Italy, which was 12 billion euros.
