According to data, the most popular means of transportation in Italy was the car, chosen for about 59 percent of the trips in 2018. Additionally, Italians traveled frequently by foot: about 23 percent of the trips in 2018, up from the previous year. By contrast, only about seven percent of total trips in both years were made on public transport.
