Tourist expenditure on outbound trips from Norway 2009-2020, by type
In 2020, the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic hit global travel and tourism hard, as governments had to implement emergency restrictions to contain the spread of the virus. As a result, the tourist expenditure on outbound trips from Norway dropped sharply in 2020 over the previous year. While the expenditure on outbound long holiday trips amounted to nearly 75 billion Norwegian kroner in 2019, it decreased to roughly 12 billion in 2020. Meanwhile, spending on outbound short holiday trips passed from approximately 17 billion in 2019 to just three billion Norwegian kroner in 2020.
