Consumption of pharmaceutical drugs in Italy 2021, by region
In 2021, the average consumption of pharmaceutical drugs charged to the national health system in Italy was equal to 1,133.2 defined daily doses (DDD) per one thousand individuals per day. This statistic shows how this figure varied across regions in the country. According to the data, the region with the highest level of medicines consumption was Campania, with 1,334.3 DDD per 1,000 inhabitants per day. On the contrary, the Autonomous Province of Bolzano was the one registering the lowest level of pharmaceutical drugs’ consumption. In general, consumption seemed to be higher in Central and Southern regions.
