Italy: olive oil average price 2017, by type In 2017, in Italy, average prices of olive oil varied between 3.10 euros to 15.5 euros per liter, depending on the type of olive oil. Oils with PDO and PGI quality labels were the most expensive as of 2017. Such olive oils were most likely purchased by high spenders, an estimated 13 percent of the Italian olive oil consumers.
Consumption of olive oil

  Regardless of oil quality, 78 percent of consumers were willing to spend up to six euros per liter shopped in supermarkets, while 76 percent of high spenders would rather go directly to the producer or order the oil online. For home consumption, 85 percent of Italian consumers preferred to use extra virgin olive oil to cook their meals.  

Why choosing extra virgin olive oil

  In a poll on the main reasons to buy extra virgin olive oil, 36 percent of respondents stated that it was the best one for cooking, while 27 percent were aware of its higher quality and 18 percent thought it was healthy.
