Plastic packaging waste treatment in Europe (EU27+3) 2006 & 2020, by treatment type

The total volume of plastic packaging waste collected for treatment in Europe (EU27+3) amounted to some 17.9 million metric tons in 2020, up from approximately 15 million metric tons in 2006. Whereas the waste volume sent to landfills decreased over the period in consideration, the volume of plastic packaging waste collected for recycling doubled.
