Disposition of ashes after cremation in the U.S. 2015-2019

In 2019, for 42 percent of cremation cases, the ashes were returned to the family after cremation, compared to 39 percent of cases in 2017. For cremation cases that ended in the ashes being buried or scattered at a cemetery, this figure was just over 35 percent in 2019.
