Straight whiskey share of total spirits consumption in the U.S. from 2005 to 2018 This statistic shows the straight whiskey share of total spirits consumption in the United States from 2005 to 2018. In 2018, 10.2 percent of all spirits consumed were straight whiskey. Straight whiskey is whiskey created by distilling fermented cereal grain mash, creating a liquor not exceeding 80 percent alcohol by volume (ABV) and aged for a minimum of two years. Once bottled, the ABV must be 62.5 percent or lower.
