This statistic shows the share of people in favor of abolishing dividend tax in the Netherlands in 2017 and 2018. The dividend tax rate is the total amount of the expected dividend payments from an investment, fund or portfolio expressed on an annualized basis plus any additional non-recurring dividends that may be received during that period. At the end of 2017, the Dutch government announced it wanted to abolish this tax rate, so as to make the Netherlands more attractive for foreign companies. This sparked a national debate.
Between November 2017 and August 2018, the share of respondents in favor of abolishing dividend tax in the Netherlands continuously declined. Participants supporting the government plans to abolish taxation of dividend were never more than one-quarter of the total. In August 2018, only 15 percent of the respondents said to be in favor of abolishing dividend tax. As of May 2018, the corporate dividend tax rate in the Netherlands reached 15 percent.
