Distribution of the population in Australia in 2016 by area and indigenous status

In 2016 the proportion of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people living in major cities in Australian amounted to 37.4 percent of the Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander population. By comparison, 72.6 percent of the non-Indigenous population lived in major cities. Although the majority of the Aboriginal population lived in major cities and inner regional areas, just over one in ten lived in very remote communities.
