India: food subsidies released by Government 2021

In fiscal year 2021, the amount of food subsidies released by government of India amounted to over five trillion Indian rupees. This was a increase from previous fiscal years. Food subsidy was provided to Food Corporation of India (FCI) for procurement and distribution of wheat and rice under National Food Security Act (NFSA) and other welfare schemes and to undertake decentralized procurement by states.
