Accepted payment methods among retail chain stores in the Netherlands 2017

This statistic shows the answers on a survey question which payment methods are accepted the most by retail chain stores in the Netherlands in 2017. Debit cards were widely used, with all respondents indicating they accepted them in their retail stores. Credit cards were also often accepted. This is not always the case in the Netherlands: smaller retail stores would often not accept credit cards as a method of payment. Within Europe there is a lot of diversity when it comes to the use of payment methods. Every country has its own way of paying money, with credit/debit cards, checks, mobile apps, NFC (Near-Field Communication, or contactless payments) and digital wallets being the most well-known digital payments methods in Europe.
