Turkish citizens residing abroad tend to visit Turkey to see friends and relatives. In 2019, approximately 3.75 million citizens departing the country had been visiting for this purpose. An additional 1.9 million visited for travel, entertainment, sport or other cultural activities. In comparison, more foreign tourists visited Turkey for travel and entertainment purposes, and fewer to see friends and family.
