Brazil: deforested area in the Amazon rainforest 2004-2019

The deforestation rate of the Legal Amazon region in Brazil increased over 34 percent between 2018 and 2019. The source estimated that 10,129 square kilometers of the Brazilian Amazon were destroyed in 2019, up from 7,536 square kilometers a year earlier. In the past thirty years, the states of Pará and Mato Grosso have registered the highest share of deforestation in the Brazilian Amazon.
