In 2017, about 80 percent of Indians above 15 years owned an account at a bank or an other financial institution. This was a significant change from only 35 percent in 2011. This growth was primarily due to the financial inclusion of marginalized groups within the country - from women, to the out-of-labor force, less educated and the poor.
