Netherlands Facebook Messenger users 2023, by age and gender
As of December 2023, 54.4 percent of Facebook Messenger users in the Netherlands were women. Overall, 11.7 percent of users were women in the 25 to 34 year age group, compared to 11.1 percent of men. Respondents in the 65 years and older age group were the least likely to be users of the instant messaging service.
In the Netherlands, WhatsApp is the dominant communication channel with approximately 12.4 million users in 2021 and an installed base of 12.26 million as of 2018. As opposed to Belgium and Luxembourg, WhatsApp outperforms Facebook and Facebook Messenger in the Netherlands. When asked, for example, which digital communication platform Dutch consumers used first after waking up, roughly 47 percent of respondents checked WhatsApp, with 13 percent using Facebook.
