Watermelon production volume in Japan 2009-2017

In 2017, just over 331 thousand tons of watermelons were produced in Japan, a decrease from almost 390 thousand tons in 2009. While a variety of watermelons are cultivated in Japan, the best known products include the square-shaped watermelons and the 'Densuke' watermelons grown in Hokkaido, which are considered luxury commodities.
