In 2022, the number of licensed internists in Brazil amounted to approximately 57 thousand professionals, up from around 49 thousand physicians specializing in internal medicine recorded two years earlier. This branch of medicine deals with the diagnosis and treatment of common or systemic diseases in adults that generally do not require surgery. Among other medical specialties, internal medicine had the highest number of registered doctors in Brazil as of 2022.
