Share of passengers traveling through carbon accredited airports in Europe 2010-2019

The share of passengers traveling through a carbon accredited airport in Europe grew from 21 percent in the reporting year 2010 to 64 percent in 2015, remaining steady in the following years. While the number of accredited airports kept increasing, the new entrants were mostly small, accounting for only a minor share of European traffic. The Airport Carbon Accreditation program was introduced in 2009 to recognize airports' efforts to reduce their carbon footprint.
