This statistic illustrates the distribution of payment methods used for card present transactions in Germany in 2017. Card present transactions include traditional countertop credit card machines, point of sale systems with a card reader, contactless-enabled terminals and card readers connected to smartphones or tablets.

According to a study conducted by WorldPay, cash was the most popular method used for POS transactions in Germany, accounting for 55 percent of transactions. This was far higher than debit card payments, which accounted for 25 percent of card present transactions during 2017.
