Mexico: revenue lost due to fuel theft 2018-2022
The revenue lost due to fossil fuel theft in Mexico amounted to 14.24 billion Mexican pesos in 2022, which represented a drastic increase in comparison to three years earlier. In recent years, a series of security measures have been enforced by the Mexican government in an attempt to reduce the number of fuel theft occurrences. In turn, the number of cases reported in the country declined by around 40 percent between 2018 and 2020. However, the resurgence of fuel theft between 2020 and 2022 would suggest that these security measures have failed in some ways.
