When asked what products and services they were interested in, in early 2023, just over 70 percent of consumers in Ireland said they were interested in clothing. Between 60 and 70 percent of surveyed Irish shoppers expressed an interest in food and drink products, as well as footwear. Interest in clothing and shoes is reinforced by the fact that more than seven in 10 Irish shoppers had bought something in an apparel and/or shoe store in the past 12 months. Generally, the country’s shoppers looked for quality and comfort when shopping for apparel, above most other criteria.Concerns among shoppers in Ireland
As a result of several contributing factors, such as Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, the COVID-19 pandemic, and increased product demand among consumers, the world was met with a heavy wave of inflation in 2022. This in turn also had an impact on Irish consumers. In 2022, about three-quarters of physical store shoppers in Ireland said they had been impacted by rising prices for grocery products. In the same year, two-thirds of shoppers said they had reduced the amount of shopping they do with UK retailers since Brexit and the resulting customs charges on purchases.
