Whilst cybersecurity is mainly a B2B market, the Software segment also includes a certain B2C share. The largest market—just like in all Cybersecurity segments—is North America. Asia’s share in software revenues is rather low compared to the other segments. The COVID-19 pandemic led to a sharp drop in investments in this segment. As such, the crisis accelerates the paradigm shift to lower but more targeted investments. Within the next couple of years, the Software segment is expected to be back at a solid growth, albeit at a lower level than in previous years.

The segment Software includes software solutions that aim to protect and secure individual computing devices, information systems, internet communication, transactions, and networks. Typical tasks include access management, data and network protection as well as security against viruses, intrusions, and any other system-level security risks. Revenues include both company and consumer investments. Software can be provided in one of two ways: On-premises software is sold via a transactional license or as a subscription, and cloud-based software (Software as a Service / SaaS) is most often sold as a subscription.
