Men and millennials have the largest connection to the NFL
To no surprise, most German NFL fans are male. NFL fans are fairly evenly distributed across the age groups surveyed, except between the ages 31 and 35, this age group stands out with the most NFL fans.
NFL fans crave success in their everyday lives and have an appetite for other U.S. sports
Success stands out as an important aspect of life to German NFL fans compared to general onliners, but they also like to have fun and value relationships. The NBA is the most followed U.S. sports league in Germany, followed by the NFL, the MLB, and finally the NHL.
Germany’s love for NFL increased during the pandemic
The intensity in which German fans follow the NFL has increased during the COVID-19 pandemic and American Football is currently one of the Top 5 most bet on sports in Germany. Most German NFL fans interact with the NFL by watching games on TV, but YouTube highlights are popular as well. About a third of German NFL fans would attend an NFL game that is played close to where they live. However, one thing to be mindful of, is that about a quarter of German NFL fans are still skeptical about attending sports events in person due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
