Statista Dossier about immunization coverage in India
Immunization programs in India are funded by central government. While India has seen a drastic improvement in vaccination coverage in the last few decades, there still remains a large proportion of children who are not able to receive the basic vaccine-preventable diseases (VPDs), which can be attributed mainly, to poor access to a nearby medical facility or lack of trained medical professionals. Systematic efforts are currently being made by public health bodies, to challenge the status quo and reinforce the current implementation and surveillance approach to afford a wider coverage of 90 percent by 2030.
The first chapter of this dossier presents with key facts relative to the global and domestic vaccine market. The second chapter sheds light on statistics in relation to full immunization coverage. A child is considered fully immunized when they receive vaccines against Tuberculosis, three doses of Diphtheria, Pertussis and Tetanus (DTP), three doses of the Poliomyelitis, and one dose of the Measles vaccine before they are one year old. Aside from that, the dossier also highlights details of vaccination coverage among children and the share of different vaccines by antigen administered to the population until 2018. Further, the fifth chapter underscores immunization coverage across different regions specific to states and union territories.
