adidas AG is the largest sportswear manufacturer in Europe and is second only to Nike worldwide. adidas is a multinational corporation, founded and headquartered in Herzogenaurach, Germany, which designs and manufactures footwear, apparel, and accessories. The sporting goods company also owns a share of the German football club Bayern Munich. The adidas logo found on all of the company's products consists of three stripes, and is one of the most instantly recognizable logos in the world. Some of adidas' main competitors include Puma, Under Armour, and of course Nike.
Adidas employed around 59 thousand people worldwide in 2022. The organization's global net sales amounted to about 22.5 billion euros that year, signifying an inrease compared to 2020 and 2021, which saw lower sales caused by the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.
Currently, North America and Greater China are some of adidas' most important markets, as these regions combined accounted for more than 40 percent of the company's annual retail sales. Nearly 40 percent of the company's sales were made in the EMEA region alone. Apparel and footwear are the Group's biggest segments and unsurprisingly generate the bulk of the company's sales. In 2022, the company produced some 480 million units of sportswear and about 420 million pairs of shoes worldwide. The number of shoes produced by adidas had dropped considerably in 2020 and 2021, around the time of the divestiture of the Reebok business. While the athletic footwear subsidiary been part of the adidas family since the mid-2000s, adidas announced its plans to sell the Reebok brand in 2021 and had been acquired by Authentic Brands Group for a total consideration of two and a half billion U.S. dollars in early 2022.
