Since its establishment, Eni S.p.A. has broadened its operations to include nuclear energy, contracting, mining, natural gas and power, refining and marketing for petrochemical products, and more. Eni S.p.A relies heavily on its exploration and production operations, although refining and marketing contribute extensively to their net revenues as well. The company produces large volumes of hydrocarbons in its oil field areas that include facilities in Africa, Venezuela, Kazakhstan, and Iraq. Approximately half of Eni S.p.A’s gas revenues are generated within Italy. The company also has subsidiaries in the United Kingdom and India as well as Versalis, a chemical company that produces various petrochemical products. However, the volume of Eni S.p.A’s refinery throughputs has been declining in recent years.
Eni employs roughly 32 thousand people around the world. The company’s net income was 144 million euros in 2019. Since 2007, Eni has been included in the Dow Jones Sustainability World Index, however, oil spills such as the one near Nigeria’s Brass facility in 2013 are still detrimental to the environment.
