In 2019, the Spanish banking giant had more customers than any other European bank, growing by almost 45 million between 2012 and 2019. In terms of customer distribution, Brazil, the United Kingdom (UK), Mexico and Spain accounted for the majority of customers for Banco Santander.
In 2019, Santander joined a growing number of the world's largest banks in making a financial commitment to sustainable financing and investments to help projects, technologies, and clean energies in delivering on the Paris Agreement and the UN Sustainable Development Goals. Banco Santander's goal is to facilitate and mobilize 120 billion euros of green finance between 2019 and 2025. Between 2019 and 2030 the bank aims for the level of green finance to reach 220 billion euros. During 2019, Banco Santander reached almost twenty billion in green finance, with the majority in project finance lending, project financing, as well as mergers and acquisitions.
