Equinor - statistics & facts

The Norwegian state-owned multinational energy company Equinor was founded in 1972, originally under the name Den Norske Stats Oljeselskap AS, also known as Statoil. The company, which has operations in nearly 30 countries, changed their name to Equinor in 2018. Though Equinor is primarily an oil and gas company, it also has investments in renewable energy. Equinor has appeared among the world's leading oil and gas companies based on revenue, although it lost its spot among the most profitable companies in 2021 due to the effects of the coronavirus pandemic.

Equinor's financial standing

Equinor's annual revenue peaked in 2013 at almost 110 billion U.S. dollars. In 2021, Equinor's revenue amounted to 90.9 billion U.S. dollars. Not surprisingly, Norway - its home maket - is the highest revenue generating country for Equinor by a large margin. Similarly, the majority of Equinor's employees are based in Norway: more than 18,000 of the company's 21,126 employees work in Norway.

Equinor's operations across the supply chain

The main business segments of Equinor are Exploration and Production Norway, Exploration and Production International, and Marketing, Midstream and Processing. The latter is Equinor's highest revenue generating segment. Equinor had interests in over 4,500 productive oil and gas wells worldwide as of December 2021. Equinor's crude oil sales volume amounted to 358 million barrels in 2021.
