LongHorn Steakhouse is a casual dining restaurant chain based in the United States. A casual dining restaurant comes under the full service dining category and is typically described as an establishment that offers table service and moderately priced food in a casual environment. It was first founded in the state of Georgia in the U.S. in 1981 by George McKerrow, Jr. as a Western-themed steak restaurant. LongHorn Steakhouse expanded further into the southeast in the 1990s, opening its first restaurants outside of Atlanta in North Carolina before establishing locations in other states. In 2007, the restaurant chain was purchased by Darden Restaurants, a multi-brand restaurant operator. Expansion into Latin America began in 2017, and as of 2022 there were 546 LongHorn Steakhouse restaurants operating globally.

Since its purchase by Darden Restaurants in 2007, LongHorn Steakhouse experienced a similar overall growth in the number of restaurants in North America, with over 546 establishments in 2022. The casual dining chain is one of the biggest and most popular in the country. In a ranking of the leading casual dining chains in the U.S. by sales, LongHorn Steakhouse ranked in the top 10. The chain placed right behind its competitor The Cheesecake Factory. LongHorn Steakhouse also ranked highly in a list of the leading casual dining chains in the U.S. by units.

The chain has been owned and operated since 2007 by Darden Restaurants, a multi brand restaurant operator. For the last 12 years, the number of establishments in North America owned by Darden increased year-over-year, reaching nearly two thousand establishments in 2022. As of that year, Darden owned multiple casual dining restaurant chains, including LongHorn Steakhouse, and two fine dining restaurant chains. The company was originally founded by William Darden in 1938 and is headquartered in Orlando, Florida in the United States. Although the number of establishments operated by Darden has steadily increased over the past decade, the total assets of Darden restaurants decreased slightly in 2022. Darden's revenue, however, increased that year to an all-time-high of 9.63 billion U.S. dollars.
