Overseas ventures of Hyundai E&C
Almost half of the company’s sales revenue comes from construction and housing, and it was the second largest construction company by estimated building capacity in South Korea in 2022. Its main competitors are GS Engineering & Construction Corp. and Daewoo Engineering & Construction Co., Ltd. It has also been responsible for a number of notable construction projects overseas. Since the construction of the Pattani-Narathiwat highway in Thailand in 1965, the company has continued to engage in projects both domestically and abroad, examples of which are the Penang Bridge in Malaysia and the Jamuna Multi-purpose Bridge in Bangladesh. Beyond bridges and roads, the company has built several nuclear reactors. As of 2022, Hyundai E&C has made over half of the nuclear power plants in South Korea, and it is currently constructing reactors in the United Arab Emirates with plans to complete them in 2023.Hyundai E&C’s sustainability
As for its financial performance, the value of its total assets rose by more than two trillion South Korean won from 2017 to 2022. Hyundai E&C seeks to increase the proportion of sustainable products against total revenue as part of its efforts to coin itself as a firm dedicated to sustainability. However, the company’s greenhouse gas emissions have increased from years prior, likely due to the relaxation of COVID-19-related restrictions.
