Sprint through history
Sprint's roots trace back to the Brown Telephone Company, founded in 1899. Its modern name emerged from the 1982 merger of South Pacific Communications and General Telephone & Electric Corporation, forming GTE Sprint under United Telecommunications. In 2005, Sprint Corporation merged with Nextel Communications, becoming Sprint Nextel Corporation. In 2013, SoftBank Corporation, a Japanese multinational telecommunications company, acquired Sprint Nextel Corporation, leading to the closure of Nextel operations and the return of the Sprint Corporation name. The merger with T-Mobile was finalized in April 2020.
