Typical price of single-family homes in the U.S. 2021-2024, by state
House prices increased across most states in the United States between February 2023 and February 2024, except in Texas, North Dakota, District of Columbia, and Louisiana. In Hawaii, where housing was the most expensive, the typical value of single-family homes in the 35th to 65th percentile range exceeded 967,000 million U.S. dollars, up from 961,000 U.S. dollars the year before. West Virginia, on the other hand, had the lowest typical home value. According to the Federal Housing Association, house appreciation in 13 states exceeded nine percent in 2023.
