Cross-border e-commerce purchases in 2019 were most likely to happen in the smaller European states, such as Malta, Cyprus, Montenegro, Luxembourg, and Iceland. Almost all Maltese respondents said that when they bought something online they used a foreign seller, either from within the EU or a country outside the EU (such as China). Consumers from Turkey, the Netherlands, Poland, and Sweden, on the other hand, preferred to buy online from domestic sellers. For instance, 95 percent of Dutch respondents bought online from domestic retailer. Note that Dutch consumers could sometimes also buy from abroad alongside their domestic purchase. Over half of individuals in the Netherlands said they also bought a product from a country outside of their own.
