Following surfing's inclusion at the 2020 Olympic Games, there has been a campaign to get adaptive surfing included in the 2028 Paralympic Games. The worldwide Adaptive Surfing Championships is one of the leading competitions for adaptive surfing, and the prize fund for the 2019 event in Hawai'i was 1,000 U.S. dollars. This rose to 26,000 for the U.S. event in the same year, and 25,000 U.S. dollars for the event two years later.
