India: number of SEZs by state 2022

As of September 2022, the Indian state of Tamil Nadu had the highest number of operational Special Economic Zones (SEZs), followed by Maharashtra and Telangana. There were a total of 270 SEZs in India.
Special Economic Zones (SEZs) are regions within the country that have, geographically, more liberal economic laws to promote foreign direct investments from foreign investors as compared to the domestic law of the land. SEZs have their own specific set of laws.
