Consumers' affordability of food amid inflation in Japan 2023
Around one quarter of Japanese consumers did not have the financial leeway to bear the food price hikes, according to a survey conducted in October 2023 in Japan. Almost 24 percent of respondents stated that they could not tolerate any price increase in food items, regardless of amount. The largest share, 37.5 percent, reported that they could bear an increase of up to 10 percent of current food prices.
