Founded in 1997 under the name WestJet Express, the company changed its name to Allegiant Air in 1998. It is a niche player in the ultra-low-cost carrier (ULCC) market, providing scheduled air transportation services and ancillary products. Allegiant Air is currently serving 98 small and medium-sized cities and 33 leisure destinations across the United States.
With its ultra-low-cost business model focused on leisure travelers with seasonal travel patterns, the company reported an average fare of 58.5 U.S. dollars for scheduled service operations in 20201.
In 2021, Allegiant Air transported more than 13.5 million passengers on scheduled flights and had a seat capacity of over 17 billion available seat miles. The company reported total operating revenue streams of about 1.7 billion U.S. dollars in that year.
